Donald Fagen and Walter Becker, the masterminds behind Steely Dan, met while attending Bard College in New York. They started playing together in a band called The Badgers, and eventually started writing their own songs. In 1972, they released their debut album Can't Buy a Thrill, which featured the hit single "Do It Again." The album was a huge success, and the band quickly became one of the most popular acts around. They followed up with a string of hit albums, including Pretzel Logic (1974), Katy Lied (1975), and The Royal Scam (1976). By this time, Steely Dan had developed a reputation for being one of the best live bands around, thanks to their incredible musicianship and tight performance. In 1977, the band took a break from touring and recording, but they continued to release new music, including the albums Gaucho (1980) and Two Against Nature (2000). In 2001, Becker passed away, but Fagen has kept the Steely Dan flame alive, touring and recording with a rotating cast of musicians.
