    About New York Knicks

The New York Knicks, more affectionately known as the Knickerbockers, are a prominent American basketball team based in Manhattan. Competing under the National Basketball Association (NBA), they proudly represent their place within the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. Madison Square Garden, where they played their home games and also shared with New York Rangers of NHL, is one of two NBA franchises representing NYC - the other being Brooklyn Nets. The Knicks are a part of an elite and distinguished group that comprises only 2 original teams still in their city since inception; alongside Boston Celtics they make up this iconic duo. Established by Ned Irish in 1946, the Knicks were a pioneering member of the Basketball Association of America (BAA), which became the NBA after merging with its rival National Basketball League (NBL) two years later. Initially successful under head coach Joe Lapchick, they made three consecutive appearances in the NBA Finals between 1950 and 1953; unfortunately, these all ended as losses. With Lapchick's resignation in 1956 came to an abrupt end to their streak of success - since then they have less frequently threatened playoff contention.

That said, the Knicks have still managed to produce a number of memorable moments within the game. Willis Reed's heroic return in game seven of the 1970 NBA Finals is undoubtedly one; the team rallied behind Reed and won the championship that year. In 1985, the Knicks selected Patrick Ewing as their draft pick- a move that would buoy them to much success in seasons to come. They followed this up with another title two years later and remain tied with 14 other franchises as having two championship titles. In more recent times, they have made the playoffs intermittently over the course of their history; most notably in 2013 when they reached the second round. The New York Knicks are proud to present a roster of legendary players, including Patrick Ewing, Walt Frazier, Willis Reed, Bernard King, Earl Monroe, and Charles Oakley. Furthermore, the team has also featured Carmelo Anthony, John Starks, and Dave DeBusschere in its ranks. Moreover, Allan Houston, Jerry Lucas, Latrell Sprewell as well as Anthony Mason have played on the team too. Finally, Mark Jackson Amar'e Stoudemire Bill Bradley and Larry Johnson round out this impressive list of names!
