Sofi Tukker are a musical duo based in Florida consisting of Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern. The duo met while attending Brown University and released their debut album, Soft Animals, in 2016. Their song "Drinkee" was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards. In 2018, they released the singles "Best Friend" (featuring NERVO, The Knocks and Alisa Ueno) and "Fantasy" (featuring Robin Schulz).

Sophie Hawley-Weld was raised in rural Canada and Atlanta despite being born in Frankfurt, Germany. Then, in Duino, Italy, she enrolled in United World College of the Adriatic, a UWC.

Massachusetts's Brookline is the place of Tucker Halpern's birth. He played basketball as a child and was sought out by top Division I basketball programs. He ultimately chose Brown University, where he played for three years and served as captain for a year. He changed his career due to a medical condition, began DJing, and focused on music creation.

"An insatiable dancing compilation of jungle-pop tunes with several well-executed references towards Brazilian instruments, poets, and the native language, Portuguese," was how Paste magazine characterized the band's CD. The beautifully designed "Matadora" was referred to as "the album's show-stopper" in the magazine's review.

Sofi Tukker's album Treehouse was reviewed slantly by Slant Magazine. They said the tracks are "alternately playful and sincere, intimate and global." The reviewer went on to say that though worldly sophistication is lent to the album by bossa-nova rhythms, cowbells, castanets and spaghetti-western guitars; Hawley-Weld and Halpern never take themselves or their music too seriously.
