With a lengthy and impressive history, the Sacramento Kings are an American professional basketball team that demonstrates their talent in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as part of the Western Conference Pacific Division. Not only have they been around since 1948 - making them one of the oldest teams in all of NBA - but they stand out for being to first and sole major North American sports league based within Sacramento. The team proudly calls the Golden 1 Center their home court and has had great success in recent years, none more so than during the 2001-02 season when they held a record winning percentage of .744 with an impressive 61-21 record. The journey of the Rochester Royals began in 1923 as the semi-professional team, the Rochester Seagrams. For two decades, they hosted a plethora of teams at their home ground before finally becoming part of the National Basketball League (NBL) in 1945 and being rechristened to become what we know today - The Rochester Royals! In an incredible turn of events, these fellows won NBL's championship title just within their first season after joining – 1945–46. In 1948, the Royals joined forces with three different NBL teams to form the Basketball Association of America (BAA), which eventually evolved into what is now known as the NBA. As a team, they were quite successful and even won an NBA championship in 1951. Unfortunately though, due to the small size of their home market in Rochester it was hard for them to be profitable financially; so ultimately they chose to relocate their base of operations over 600 miles away from home - making Cincinnati their new hometown and renaming themselves "The Cincinnati Royals". In 1972, the team shifted once more and set up shop in Kansas City, Missouri. To avoid confusion with the baseball franchise known as Royals they renamed themselves to 'Kansas City-Omaha Kings', signifying that home games were held in both areas at first. Nevertheless, after three seasons this was changed to simply "Kansas City Kings". Although not playing a full complement of games there anymore, Omaha remained an occasional host for matches until March 1978. From the late 1990s to early 2000s, the Kings experienced one of their most prosperous stretches since relocating to California. The Golden 1 Center proudly pays tribute to some of the greatest players in basketball history, from Oscar Robertson and Chris Webber to Peja Stojakovic, Mitch Richmond, Chris Webber, Vlade Divac, DeMarcus Cousins, Nate Archibald, and Mike Bibby. Additionally part of this exclusive club is Jason Williams Vlade Divac and Jerry Lucas - all-time greats who made an indelible mark on the game. On August 14th, 2020, the Sacramento Kings proclaimed that Vlade Divac was resigning from his role as General Manager. The team would then appoint Joe Dumars - former player and executive of the Detroit Pistons - to become Interim Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations; Dumars had been partaking in a special advisory capacity since June 2019. After a comprehensive month-long search, the Sacramento Kings officially declared Monte McNair as their new general manager on September 17th, 2020. With thirteen years of experience serving under Daryl Morey in various roles at the Houston Rockets - and most recently being named assistant general manager in 2018 - this hiring marks an incredible opportunity for McNair to bring his expertise to the franchise. After the hire, Joe Dumars was appointed chief strategy officer of the organization. Other esteemed contenders for this role were Sachin Gupta from Minnesota Timberwolves in his position as executive vice president, Calvin Booth who is presently Denver Nuggets general manager, and former Atlanta Hawks GM Wes Wilcox. McNair announced on October 14, 2020, that he had hired three additional people. These people were Wes Wilcox, who became an assistant GM, Phil Jabour, who became the vice president of player personnel, and Paul Johnson, who became the director of basketball operations. They have proudly appointed Luke Walton as their new Head Coach, ushering in a fresh era for the organization. Basketball fans, rejoice! We offer the most affordable sports tickets!
