Superunknown, the Seattle-based grunge band, is one of the most influential bands of its time. The band was formed in 1990 by Chris Cornell and Kim Thayil, who had been playing together since high school. They were joined by bassist Hiro Yamamoto and drummer Matt Cameron. Their debut album, Superunknown, released in 1994, was an instant success and went on to become one of the best-selling albums of all time with over 25 million copies sold worldwide. The Superunknown album spawned hit singles such as "Black Hole Sun," "Spoonman," and "Fell On Black Days." These songs were heavily played on radio stations around the world and helped propel Superunknown's popularity even further. The band received numerous awards for their success including four Grammy nominations for Best Rock Album and two wins for Best Hard Rock Performance ("Spoonman") and Best Metal Performance ("Black Hole Sun"). Superunknown also won an MTV Video Music Award for Best Metal/Hard Rock Video ("Black Hole Sun"). 

Superunknown's follow-up album Down on the Upside was released in 1996 to critical acclaim but did not achieve the same commercial success as its predecessor. Despite this setback, the band continued to tour extensively throughout 1997-1998 before disbanding in April 1997 due to internal conflicts between members. After a brief hiatus, they reunited in 2012 to celebrate their 20th anniversary with a tour that included shows across North America and Australia. In June 2021, Superunknown announced their first full-length studio release since 1996's Down on the Upside - titled Higher Truths - with plans to tour globally throughout 2023! The announcement came as a surprise to many fans but it has been met with enthusiasm as they look forward to hearing new music from one of their favorite bands. Additionally, Superunknown will be releasing a series of live recordings from their reunion tour which will include unreleased material from their early years.
