Lake Street Dive is an American indie rock band that was formed in 2004 in Boston, Massachusetts. The band consists of Rachael Price (lead vocals), Mike "McDuck" Olson (trumpet, guitar), Bridget Kearney (bass guitar, upright bass), Mike Calabrese, and Akie Bermiss (piano, keyboards). The group met while studying jazz at the New England Conservatory of Music. They began playing gigs together in and around Boston and soon developed a following. The band's first album, In This Episode (2006), was self-released and sold only at live shows. Their second album, Side Pony (2016), was released on Nonesuch Records to critical acclaim. It peaked at number 35 on the Billboard 200 chart and number 3 on the Top Rock Albums chart. The album's lead single, "Call Off Your Dogs", became a top 40 hit on the Adult Alternative Songs chart.
The band has toured extensively, both in the US and internationally. They have appeared on late-night TV shows such as The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and The Late Show with David Letterman. In 2017, they won a Grammy Award for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical for their album Side Pony. Lake Street Dive's music has been described as "a mix of R&B, soul, and jazz." Their sound has been compared to that of classic soul groups like The Staple Singers and Booker T. & the M.G. The band is known for its high-energy live shows. They often incorporate acrobatics and choreographed dance routines into their performances. Lake Street Dive's fourth studio album, Free Yourself Up, was released on May 4, 2018.
