The Blackhawks are an NHL ice hockey team based in Chicago, Illinois. They were founded in 1926 and derive their name from the Native American war leader Chief Black Hawk. The Blackhawks have won the Stanley Cup Championship six times: 1933, 1937, 1961, 2010, 2013, and 2015. The current captain is Jonathan Toews. They compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Central Division of the Western Conference since they joined the league in 1926. The Blackhawks have won six Stanley Cups championships since their founding in 1926. The Blackhawks are one of the "Original Six" NHL teams along with the Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, and New York Rangers. Since 1994, the club's home rink is the United Center, which they share with the National Basketball Association's Chicago Bulls.

The club had previously played for 65 years at Chicago Stadium. The team's intense rivalry with the Detroit Red Wings is one of the fiercest rivalries in sports. The Blackhawks and Red Wings have met five times in the Stanley Cup Finals, with Detroit winning four of those series. The Blackhawks won their first Stanley Cup championship in 1933. Led by Hall of Fame head coach Dick Irvin Sr., the team made consecutive appearances in the Stanley Cup Finals in 1930 and 1931 but lost both times to the Montreal Canadiens. After a lackluster regular season in 1932–33, Chicago was rewarded with the first overall pick in the 1933 NHL Entry Draft. The Blackhawks selected future Hall of Famer Red Dutton with that pick. The Blackhawks went on to defeat the New York Rangers in the 1933 Stanley Cup Finals, giving the franchise its first championship. The Hawks won the draft lottery and picked Patrick Kane as the 1st overall pick. The Hawks have had some of the most iconic and influential players in hockey history, Hall of Famers like Bobby Hull, Denis Savard, Stan Mikita, Tony Esposito, Phil Esposito, Glenn Hall - to name a few.
