Tash Sultana was born in Melbourne, Australia, of Maltese and Turkish Cypriot parents. At the age of three, she started playing the violin and by age five, she had begun playing guitar. She taught herself how to play drums, bass and keyboard instruments. Sultana's father died when she was a child and she has said that music saved her life. Sultana began busking on the streets of Melbourne at the age of 14 and was soon discovered by Triple J, an Australian radio station. She released her first EP, "Notion" in 2016, which reached No. 1 on the iTunes charts in Australia and New Zealand. Sultana's debut album, "Flow State", was released in 2018 and reached No. 1 on the ARIA charts in Australia. Sultana has toured extensively, both as a headliner and as support act for artists such as Gotye, Xavier Rudd and The Cat Empire. She has performed at festivals such as Coachella, Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo and Austin City Limits.
