About Eric Clapton

Eric Clapton was born on 30 March 1945 in Ripley, Surrey, England. His father, Edward Fryer, was a Canadian soldier stationed in the United Kingdom during World War II. When Eric was two years old, his parents divorced and he went to live with his grandparents in Epsom, Surrey. Eric's mother, Patricia Molly Clapton (née Molly Clapp), later remarried and had two more children, Julie Rose (born in 1954) and Roberta "Bobbie" (born in 1955). Eric began playing the guitar at the age of 15. He played in many bands during the 1960s, including The Roosters, Casey Jones and the Engineers, and The Powerhouse. In 1966, he joined the Bluesbreakers, a blues band led by John Mayall. Eric played on the group's first two albums, The Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton (1966) and Crusade (1967). In 1967, Eric left the Bluesbreakers and formed the rock band Cream with bassist Jack Bruce and drummer Ginger Baker.

The group's first album, Fresh Cream (1966), was a commercial success and included the hit single "Sunshine of Your Love". Cream's second album, Disraeli Gears (1967), reached number one on the UK Albums Chart and number five on the US Billboard 200. The album features the singles "Strange Brew" and "Crossroads". In 1968, Cream disbanded and Eric began a solo career. His first album, Eric Clapton (1970), reached number two on the UK Albums Chart and number one on the US Billboard 200. The album includes the singles "After Midnight", "Wonderful Tonight" and "Layla Eric Clapton". Eric's second album, 461 Ocean Boulevard (1974), was even more successful, reaching number one on the UK Albums Chart and number two on the US Billboard 200. The album features the singles "I Shot the Sheriff" and "Willie and the Hand Jive".

Eric has released 24 studio albums, four live albums, nine compilation albums, and five video albums. He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times: once as a solo artist and separately as a member of both Cream and the Yardbirds. He has also been awarded 18 Grammy Awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award and the MusiCares Person of the Year Award. Eric Clapton earned recognition as a virtuoso guitarist by playing alongside British rockers, the Yardbirds. He further solidified his reputation in the music industry when he joined John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and developed some of the most acclaimed guitar pieces during the 1960s. His outstanding talent made him one of Britain's finest guitarists to date.

Clapton has worked with numerous legendary musicians and bands since the 1960s. The list of accomplishments by the musician, who started by playing uncredited on the Beatles song "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," includes joint albums with his heroes BB King and JJ Cale, and could probably justify having its album. 1965, Eric Clapton worked together with Jimmy Page on "Miles Road". This piece brings together two of the greatest guitarists, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page. At the time of recording the song, Clapton had already received recognition for his contributions to the Yardbirds, while Jimmy Page had not yet become a member of the band. The song has a short instrumental based on blues, featuring Clapton on lead and Page on rhythm. A few years later, Page gained legendary status with Led Zeppelin after being featured on the British blues compilation Blues Anytime Vol 3.
