Little River Band (LRB) is a rock band originally formed in Melbourne, Australia, in March 1975. The band's success has been built upon a strong harmonious vocal sound, although instrumental virtuosity and songwriting are also important elements in the group's music. The original members were lead singer Glenn Shorrock, guitarist Beeb Birtles, bass guitarist Graham Goble, keyboardist David Briggs, and drummer Derek Pellicci. All except Birtles and Pellicci also wrote material for the group. By late 1976, LRB had become one of Australia's most successful recording acts. They had issued four albums in Australia, with Parachute (May 1975) and After Hours (October 1976) both reaching number one on the national LP chart. The group's first single, "Curiosity (Killed the Cat)", was released in May 1975 and peaked at number four on the Australian Singles Chart. Their next three singles – "It's a Long Way There", "Shut Down Turn Off" and "Help Is on Its Way" – all reached the top 20. In January 1977, the group embarked on their first overseas tour, traveling to the United States to open for Boston and Heart. LRB's first album to be released outside Australia was Diamantina Cocktail (July 1977), which reached number 153 on the US Billboard 200 album chart. It included a re-recorded version of "Help Is on Its Way", which was released as a single in the US and peaked at number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1978. LRB's next album, Sleeper Catcher (April 1978), was their most successful in Australia, reaching number one and being certified five times platinum by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA). It included the singles "Reminiscing" and "Lady", which both peaked at number one in Australia, and "Light of Day", which reached number two. The album also spawned the US top 40 hits "Lonesome Loser", which peaked at number 35. Since the group's inception, there have been over 30 members, and after Shorrock left the group for the first time in 1982, John Farnham assumed the role of the lead singer. No members of the Little River Band now or in the 1970s are original or current members. Farnham, Wayne Nelson, Stephen Housden, David Hirschfelder, and Steve Prestwich were among the group's members in the 1980s. Nelson, Chris Marion, Ryan Ricks, Colin Whinnery, and Bruce Wallace make up the current lineup; none of them are Australian. Don’t miss out on this world tour and track your favorite artists!
