David Ian "Joe" Jackson is an English musician and singer-songwriter. After years of studying music and playing clubs, Jackson's first release as a solo artist was "Is She Really Going Out with Him?", a new wave hit in 1979. This was followed by a number of new wave singles before he moved to more jazz pop music and had success with both albums and singles. He has recorded 20 studio albums, and received 5 Grammy Award nominations. Joe Jackson was born in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, to Graham and Furqat Jackson. His father worked as a toolmaker for GEC, and his mother was a librarian. He has three brothers: Graham, David, and Richard. Jackson grew up in the Midlands town of Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire. He attended Newport Free Grammar School from 1968 to 1974.In early 1974 Jackson moved to London with his band, Area Code 605. They had little success and broke up after six months. Jackson then began studying English at the New College of California in San Francisco, but he later dropped out and returned to England.
In 1976, Jackson formed a new band, the Joe Jackson Band, with Graham Maby on bass and Gary Sanford on drums. The band played in clubs and pubs around Britain. In 1977 they released their first single, "Sunday Papers". The following year they released their debut album, Look Sharp!, which featured the songs "Is She Really Going Out with Him?" and "One More Time". In 1980, Jackson released his second album, Beat Crazy, which included the singles "It's Different for Girls" and "Steppin' Out". Their album Fast Forward was their 19th studio album that charmed their fans with it's story telling lyrics.Jackson began experimenting with classical music in the late 1990s; he signed with Sony Classical in 1997 and released Symphony No. 1 in 1999, for which he won a Grammy in 2001 for Best Pop Instrumental Album. He issued a follow-up new album, Night and Day II, in the year 2000. Jackson's album Fool, which was preceded by the tracks "Fabulously Absolute," "Strange Land," and "Friend Better," was released on January 18, 2019. 2019 offered viewers a complete band performance as well as an intimate mini-set Joe solo at the show.
