The International Basketball Federation is a federation of national organizations that regulates basketball worldwide.  It was founded in 1932 as the International Federation of Basketball Amateurs and changed its name to the International Basketball Federation in 1989 after becoming a professional organization. The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) is in charge of developing the rules of basketball, determining equipment and facility requirements, organizing international competitions, regulating the movement of players between countries, and selecting global referees. The federation represents 213 national federations from around the world and is responsible for promoting and developing the sport of basketball globally. It organizes tournaments such as the FIBA World Cup and FIBA Women's World Cup, as well as Olympic basketball tournaments. 

The federation also oversees the sport of 3x3 basketball and governs several other competitions such as the FIBA Basketball World Cup for Women and FIBA 3x3 World Cup. The International Basketball Federation is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.
