Vincent Grant Gill is an American country artist, singer, songwriter, and musician. He has achieved commercial success and fame both as frontman to the country rock band Pure Prairie League in the 1970s and as a solo artist beginning in 1983, where his popularity was increased by his top 10 hit singles "I Still Believe in You" (1982), "Liza Jane" (1984), "One More Last Chance" (1994), "Whenever You Come Around" (1995), "If You Ever Have Forever in Mind" (1998). In high school, his musical career began when he joined a bluegrass band called Mountain Smoke, and since then his success has only been on the rise. Gill has recorded over 20 studio albums, charted over 40 singles on the U.S. Billboard charts as Hot Country Songs, and sold more than 26 million albums. He has been honored by the Country Music Association with 18 CMA Awards, including two Entertainer of the Year awards and five Male Vocalist of the Year awards. Gill has also earned 20 Grammy Awards, more than any other male country music artist. In 1972, Gill and Robin joined with fellow Oklahoma City native Randy Meisner to form the country rock band Pure Prairie League. When Meisner left to join the Eagles in 1977, Gill became the group's lead singer and continued with Pure Prairie League through 1980. Gill is the lead singer on their best-known recording, "Amie", which reached No. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in June 1977 and was certified gold for sales of one million copies by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). He sang lead vocals on the band's other hit single "Let Me Love You Tonight". In 1980, Gill left Pure Prairie League to pursue a solo career. He released his self-titled debut album in 1982, which produced four chart singles: "Victim of Life's Circumstances", "Oklahoma Borderline", "I Still Believe in You" (which was Gill's first Number One hit as a solo artist), and "Never Knew Lonely". Gill's second album, Turn Me Loose, was released in 1983 and produced three more Number One singles: "Why Shouldn't I", "Turn Me Loose", and "til I Gained Control Again". In 1984, Gill recorded the song "We Will Rock You" (a cover of the Queen song) with Queen for the soundtrack to the film Iron Eagle. In 1986, Gill appeared as a guest on Dolly Parton's television variety show Dolly, singing a duet of "Never Gonna Let You Get Away" with her. He also sang two songs in the 1986 Clint Eastwood film Heartbreak Ridge. The soundtrack included "One More Last Chance", a Gill composition that later became one of his most successful singles as a solo artist, reaching No. 4 on the Country charts in early 1987. In 1988, Gill recorded a cover version of the Bee Gees song "Words" for the film Cocktail and the accompanying soundtrack album. Gill has been honored with eight Academy of Country Music awards, including a Career Achievement Award and its esteemed Home Depot Humanitarian Award. His accomplishments from the Country Music Association have been continuous since he secured Single of the Year with When I Call Your Name in 1990. In 2003, he released his self-produced album “Next Big Thing”. In 2006, it was followed by the release of “These Days” and an ambitious four-disc set in 2011 titled "Guitar Slinger".
