The Brazilian Football Confederation, or CBF (Confederação Brasileira de Futebol in Portuguese), is the organization that governs football throughout Brazil. The CBF was founded on Monday, 8 June 1914 under the name Federação Brasileira de Sports [pt], and renamed Confederação Brasileira de Desportos in 1916. The football confederation, as it is known today, dates back to 8 September 1957 when it changed its name to Confederação Brasileira de Futebol. The CBF is responsible for the organization of the main national tournaments: the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A and Série B (better known as Brasileirão), the Copa do Brasil, the Campeonato Brasileiro Série C, and the Campeonato Brasileiro Série D (the last two better known as Baianão and Cariocão, respectively). 

The CBF is also responsible for the organization of the lower divisions of Brazilian football, such as the Brazil U-20 national team, the Brazil U-17 national team, the Brazil U-15 national team, and the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior. The CBF is also responsible for the organization of the men's and women's national football teams, as well as the Brazilian Olympic team. The CBF is based in Rio de Janeiro and has offices in São Paulo, Brasília, Belo Horizonte, Salvador, and Porto Alegre. It is a member of FIFA and the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL). The first president of the organization was Guilherme de Almeida Filho. In 1916, the name of the organization was changed to Confederação Brasileira de Desportos (CBD), and it remained as such until 8 September 1957 when it changed its name to Confederação Brasileira de Futebol. The CBF is a member of FIFA and CONMEBOL.
