The Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum is a pre-season NASCAR Cup Series exhibition event held in February before the season-opening Daytona 500. The race was held every year at Daytona International Speedway from 1979 until 2022 when it moved to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The race, along with the ARCA Menards Series' season-opening Lucas Oil 200, served as the opening event for Daytona Speedweeks at Daytona. The event is one of two non-point races on the Cup series schedule; the other is the NASCAR All-Star Race.
The Busch Light Clash is unique among NASCAR's exhibition races in that it is restricted to past NASCAR Cup Series champions and former Daytona 500 pole-sitters. The race was originally known as the Busch Clash, with Budweiser serving as the title sponsor from 1979 until 1997. It became the Busch Light Clash in 1998 when Anheuser-Busch switched its beer brands being sponsored in NASCAR.
The race was originally run as a 35-lap event from 1979 until 1984. It increased to 70 laps in 1985, and then to 75 laps in 1986. The race was shortened to 50 laps in 1987 due to inclement weather and then increased back to 70 laps in 1988. In 1989, the race was again shortened due to weather, this time to 53 laps. The race distance remained at 53 laps from 1990 until 1995. In 1996, the race distance was increased to 59 laps. The race was lengthened to 67 laps in 1997, and then to its current distance of 75 laps in 1998. The race has been won by some of NASCAR's most famous drivers, including Dale Earnhardt, Bill Elliott, Jeff Gordon, and Darrell Waltrip.
