About Angel Stadium of Anaheim

Located in Anaheim, California, Angel Stadium of Anaheim is the home to America's beloved game: baseball. For more than half a century, the legendary stadium has been home to the Los Angeles Angels of Major League Baseball (MLB) since its opening in 1966. Furthermore, it was also host to the beloved Los Angeles Rams from 1980 until 1994 National Football League (NFL). In 1998, the stadium received a brand new name - Edison International Field of Anaheim - after local utility provider Edison International struck a 20-year agreement to provide naming rights. During this period, loyal fans referred to it as "Big Ed". Subsequently, in 2003 Edison International elected to cancel its sponsorship agreement. On December 29th, 2003, the Angels triumphantly declared that their stadium would be henceforth known as Angel Stadium (in full: Angel Stadium of Anaheim); this change coincided with Disney's sale of the Angels. With a whopping capacity of 45,517 for baseball games and 69,008 for football matches, Angel Stadium of Anaheim can comfortably accommodate thousands upon thousands of spectators.

Angel Stadium and its proximate parking lot are surrounded by Katella Avenue to the north, the Orange Freeway to the east, Orangewood Avenue to the south, and State College Boulevard on its western side. Located near the parking lot's eastern boundary stands a majestic sight—the "Big A" sign, which was originally used to support the scoreboard in left field. Since their relocation from Los Angeles, Angel Stadium has been the official home of the Angels baseball team. On August 31, 1964, construction of Anaheim Stadium began and two years later in 1966 the California Angels officially shifted into their new domicile after renting Dodger Stadium -or Chavez Ravine as it was known during Angels games- from the Dodgers for four seasons. In a historic move in 1996, The Walt Disney Company emerged as the majority owner of the team after being its minority shareholder since it first began. This was mainly due to their strategic location -- situated just three miles away from Disneyland and across from the Honda Center where they owned another hockey club called Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.

In the 2017-2018 offseason, the Angels made a crucial step towards ensuring their fans had an unforgettable experience by upgrading the video boards in both the left and right fields. The 5,488 sq ft (509.9 m2) left field video board and the gigantic 9,500 sq ft (880 m2) right field board makes up one of MLB's fourth largest scoreboards! This stadium will be the site for some of the most riveting baseball and softball games at the 2028 Summer Olympics! The venue is a hotspot for baseball, football, soccer, and concerts - all of which delight viewers in attendance. Angel Stadium has been the backdrop for numerous Hollywood blockbusters. In the climax of The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988), an electronically altered Reggie Jackson attempts to shoot Queen Elizabeth II. On November 16, 1979, Anaheim Stadium was abuzz as it opened its doors to host the American Final of Motorcycle Speedway - a qualifying round for the 1980 Speedway World Championship. Anaheim Stadium has been a host to the AMA Supercross Championship round since 1976, with interruptions between 1979-1981 and 1987-1989.

After that, it hosted continuously from 1989 until 1996 and is still hosting up till now in 2021. Not only does the stadium host a variety of events, but it is also home to Monster Jam - one of the most popular and entertaining shows that comes back every year. Angel Stadium has been the proud host of an annual Christian Harvest Crusade since 1990. Today, it continues to be a premier destination for spiritual gatherings and events. In addition, the facility has celebrated Muslim Eid el Fitr annually. To ensure the safety of all attendees, President Obama's 2014 commencement speech at the University of California, Irvine could only be accommodated by hosting it in a stadium due to its overwhelming popularity. Some of the upcoming events on the Angel Stadium of Anaheim are Monster Jam, Spring Training: Los Angeles Dodgers at Los Angeles Angels, Toronto Blue Jays at Los Angeles Angels, Washington Nationals at Los Angeles Angels, Kansas City Royals at Los Angeles Angels, Oakland Athletics at Los Angeles Angels and more.
