Representing the Wichita State University in Kansas, The Wichita State Shockers men's basketball team is an impressive NCAA Division I college squad. The Shockers have appeared in the NCAA Tournament 16 times, reaching the Final Four twice and four Elite Eight appearances. During 2012, 10,391 fans attended each home game at Charles Koch Arena - an impressive feat that placed them 38th nationally and previously known as the Levitt Arena. Additionally, their six Sweet Sixteen showings serve as a testament to the quality of play on display during every match! The Shockers have appeared in the Final Four twice, yet unfortunately did not come out on top either time. Their debut performance occurred at UCLA in 1965 where they were overwhelmed 89–108.
The second came nearly fifty years later when Louisville beat them 68–72 in 2013. Since 1964, the school has been an esteemed fixture in the NCAA Tournament fifteen times. Moreover, between 2012 and 2018 it graced seven consecutive appearances to "the big dance", as people often refer to it. After the 2019–20 season, eight Shockers players transferred off the program via the NCAA transfer portal; seven of them eventually made their departures permanent. Just before the 2020–21 season, Marshall stepped away from his position with Wichita State reaching an agreement to buy out his contract for a total of $7.75 million over six years.
