The UNC Greensboro Spartans Basketball program has a long and successful history. Established in 1949, the team has been competing in Division 1 of the NCAA since 1985. The Spartans currently compete in the Southern Conference, and their home games take place at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex. Throughout their years of competition, the Spartans have earned numerous accolades, including two NIT appearances (2004, 2010), two SoCon Tournament Championships (2001 & 2018), and one SoCon regular season Championship (2018). The team is also supported by The Spartan Club, which serves as an official booster club for all Spartan Athletic teams. The Spartans have had several players go on to reach professional levels of play throughout their history. Notable alumni include Brooks Lee (NBA player), Sean Dockery (NBA/Euroleague player), Mike Dement (NBDL player), and Clay Counsilman-Ford ( Euroleague/FIBA player).
