Representing Temple University with pride, the men's basketball team of the Temple Owls proudly takes to the court in pursuit of victory. As a part of the American Athletic Conference, The Owls are proud to participate in NCAA Division I athletics. At the Liacouras Center on Temple University's main campus in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, they proudly host their home games under the leadership of head coach Aaron Mckie. Temple University is one of the most acclaimed men's college basketball programs in NCAA Division I history, with an impressive 1,903 victories as of the conclusion of the 2017–18 season. Despite making over 30 NCAA Tournament appearances, this team is part of a unique group - one of nine to have never won the tournament and four who have yet to make it to the National Championship Game.
On March 7, 2012, the Temple Owls declared that they would be returning to the Big East Conference tournaments for all sports in 2013 after 31 years of membership in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Moreover, their football team rejoined starting in the 2012 season. Before Temple could become an all-sports member of the Big East, however, the conference split into two divisions: one for FBS football schools and another for non-FBS ones. The latter formed a new Big East in 2013 while Temple joined seven other football teams to stay with what remained of the original league - now named the American Athletic Conference. Following the 2018 season, it was declared that Aaron McKie - a former Owls great and then-assistant coach - would succeed Dunphy in 2019. Mark Macon, Juan Ignacio Sanchez, Eddie Jones, Lavoy Allen, Aaron McKie, Tim Perry, and Mardy Collins are among the many players who have gone on to achieve success in the National Basketball Association.
