The Penn State Nittany Lions men's ice hockey program is the epitome of college-level athletics, representing Pennsylvania State University with distinction and pride. The team was formerly known as the Penn State Icers when it competed in ACHA competitions. Before the 2012–13 season, the PSU team competed at the ACHA Division I level as a club sport. The year before that (2011-12) they were an independent member of ACHA D-I and had been part of the Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League (ESCHL) prior to that. Now the program has officially moved up to the NCAA Division I level. Home to the Penn State Nittany Lions, Pegula Ice Arena in University Park PA hosts thrilling professional hockey home games. The game's Most Outstanding Player Award went to freshman goaltender Peyton Jones.
