About Ohio State Buckeyes Hockey

Representing the Big Ten Conference, the Ohio State Buckeyes men's ice hockey team is a force to be reckoned with in NCAA Division I college ice hockey. Playing at Value City Arena in Columbus, Ohio, these athletes are driven by passion and commitment to bring school pride and success home. Since its inception in 1963, the Ohio State Buckeyes Men's ice hockey team has made a name for itself on and off the rink. In 1972, they secured their first CCHA Men's Ice Hockey Tournament title with an impressive 3–0 victory against Saint Louis University at the newly constructed Ohio State Ice Rink — which had been built only one year prior. The Buckeyes have since gone on to win three CCHA Tournament championships, four CCHA Regular Season titles, and five Great Lakes Invitational Championships.

From the early 2000s to 2005, Ohio State experienced its most victorious era in program history. They each made an NCAA Post season tournament appearance which tremendously increased their success. On March 21, 2011, the Big Ten Conference made a groundbreaking statement - they would be initiating men's ice hockey sponsorship in the 2013-14 season. This news sparked joy among athletes and fans alike as it opened up more opportunities for success. As rivals Ohio State, Michigan, and Michigan State left the CCHA to form a six-team Big Ten Hockey Conference alongside Minnesota and Wisconsin from the WCHA as well as Penn State who would convert their ACHA club programs into varsity status - an exciting new chapter began. In 2014-15, Ohio State and the other five teams made their Big Ten debut.

After two decades of disappointment, the team finally achieved a milestone in 2017-18 when it advanced to the semifinals of the Frozen Four. As they enter their tenth season in the Big Ten Conference, the Ohio State Buckeyes proudly embark on their 60th year of NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey. The 2022-23 Season will be an exciting time for fans and players alike as we celebrate this milestone. After 10 years of experience, Steve Rohlik continues to serve as the head coach for The Buckeyes hockey program. Their home games take place at Value City Arena where they look forward to showcasing their skillset each match. Game location: Value City Arena at the Jerome Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio, Compton Family Ice Arena, Notre Dame, Michigan Wolverines Hockey Yost Arena, Ann Arbor (with vivid seats).
