About Michigan Wolverines Basketball

The University of Michigan proudly fields a competitive men's basketball team that has competed with the best collegiate programs across the nation. The Wolverines have been proud participants in the intercollegiate competition since their first season, and they continue to strive for excellence on and off the court. The school proudly participates in the Big Ten Conference within Division I of the prestigious National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Michigan Wolverines bask in the glory of their home games at Crisler Center, located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Michigan has been a powerhouse in college basketball, proudly boasting one NCAA Championship and two National Invitation Tournaments (NIT), along with 15 Big Ten Conference titles and two Big Ten tournament titles. Featuring four future NBA first-round picks: Glen Rice, Rumeal Robinson, Jalen Rose, Loy Vaught and Terry Mills - that team was truly a star-studded line up.

It has earned an NIT title and triumphed in a Big Ten tournament which had to be vacated because of NCAA sanctions. Michigan alum Juwan Howard leads the team with his expert guidance. Michigan has been honored with 35 All-Americans and selected 48 times. Cazzie Russell, Rickey Green, Gary Grant, Chris Webber, and Trey Burke were each named consensus All-Americans twice. Additionally, the Helms Foundation selected Harry Kipke, Richard Doyle, and Bennie Oosterbaan for retroactive recognition as All-Americans. Out of the twelve All-Americans that have earned multiple honors, Russell stands out as the only three-time recipient. On the fourth of March, 2021, the Wolverines made history by snatching up the Big Ten Championship title with a decisive 69–50 win over Michigan State.

On the 8th of March 2021, Michigan suffered a devastating loss to rival team Michigan State. The season ended with a 23-5 overall record and an impressive conference winning percentage of .823 from a 14–3 conference record. Thanks to its extraordinary winning percentage, Michigan achieved a Big Ten regular season championship title for the first time since 2014 and earned head coach Howard his inaugural success in this area. With a five-year contract as head coach, the anticipation for the return of one of their iconic superstars to lead the Maize and Blue team is immense. After an electrifying regular season, the Wolverines were granted an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament as a No. 1 seed in the East region. They then proceeded to take down Texas Southern and LSU in consecutive games, landing them their fourth consecutive Sweet Sixteen appearance. Following their success against Florida State, the team was unfortunately defeated by UCLA in the Elite Eight - who were seeded 11th.

In the thrilling realm of Michigan Wolverines Basketball, the 2024 season unfolded as a captivating saga of skill, determination, and unwavering team spirit.
