The Boston College Eagles are a Division I college basketball program that represents Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, United States. The team has competed in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) since 2005, having previously played in the Big East. The Eagles have appeared in 18 NCAA Tournaments in their history, most recently in 2009. Home games have been played at the Conte Forum since 1988. The Eagles are currently coached by Earl Grant. In the year 1904, Boston College sanctioned its inaugural men's varsity squad under the leadership of coach James Crowley. On December 26th of that same year, BC played their debut game and unfortunately lost 8–6 to Battery H from the Navy. However, they earned their very first victory against Tufts on Medford with a score of 23-17 - marking an important moment in history for this team! While basketball was not a well-loved sport at the beginning of the 20th century, it weathered trying times with inadequate spectator support and persisted for three successive seasons before finally coming to an end.
When World War II ended and basketball started gaining recognition in America, it reemerged as an essential element of BC athletics for the 1945-46 season and has been ongoing ever since that is 84 seasons already! On March 15th, 2021, Boston College proudly welcomed Earl Grant as its new head coach. He was formerly the leader of the College of Charleston's team and has now taken over from interim head coach Scott Spinelli. In their ACC opener, the Eagles soared to a commanding 73–57 victory against Notre Dame at home. Thanks to James Karnik's 17 points and 13 rebounds, the team demonstrated great success after starting out with a 5-3 record. After five consecutive losses, Boston College needed a monumental second-half performance to rally against the Clemson Tigers. Makai Ashton-Langford proved up for the task, singlehandedly scoring 17 of his 19 points in the last two quarters and leading BC to an improbable 23-point comeback victory!
