The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs Hockey team has a long and illustrious history of victories, rivalries, and awards. Founded in 1901, the program began competing in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) in 1951. Since then, they have won three national championships and made three NCAA Division I Frozen Four appearances. The program has set up some intense rivalries with teams such as St. Cloud State, Nebraska-Omaha, North Dakota, and Wisconsin. The team has had many memorable home games over the years, with their most recent being the 2010 WCHA Championship game against Colorado College which they won 4-1. At present, Minnesota Duluth's head coach is Scott Sandelin who has been coaching the team since 2000. Under his leadership, the Bulldogs have won four conference regular-season titles and six conference tournament championships along with one NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Championship in 2011.
Some of their top players include Hobey Baker Award winners Jack Connolly (2012) and Junior Lessard (2004). They also saw two players make it to Team USA at the Olympic Games; Robb Stauber (1988 silver medal) and Jordan Leopold (2002 silver medal). Over its 119 years of history, Minnesota Duluth Hockey is recognized as an elite program that produces many great alumni who go on to play professional hockey or become coaches themselves.
