The Wisconsin Woodchucks are a Minor League Baseball team based in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Founded in 1995, the Woodchucks have been playing baseball for over 25 years and have become one of the most successful teams in the Northwoods League. The team plays its home games at Carson Park Stadium, located on the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire campus. Over the years, the Woodchucks have developed several rivalries with other teams in their division, including Madison Mallards, La Crosse Loggers, and Waterloo Bucks. The Woodchucks have won numerous awards throughout their history, including two Northwoods League championships and three division titles. The team is currently led by head coach Mike Pinto who took over in 2020 after former head coach John Vodenlich retired after 11 seasons with the team. Pinto has already made his mark on the program by leading them to a winning record in his first season as head coach and earning Coach of the Year honors from both Northwoods League and American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).
The Woodchucks are led by some of college baseball's top players such as pitcher Jack Eagan who was named First Team All-Northwoods League last season after throwing for 109 strikeouts; outfielder Mason McCoy who had a batting average of .333 last season; catcher Jake Dunham who had an impressive .984 fielding percentage last season; and shortstop Cole Erickson who had a team-high 20 stolen bases last season. As they look ahead to the 2023 season, Wisconsin Woodchucks will be looking to continue their success from recent years while also building on their rich history of excellence.
