The Rochester Honkers have been a part of the Minnesota Minor League Baseball scene since their inception in 1993. The team plays its home games at Mayo Field, located in downtown Rochester. Over the years, the Honkers have developed rivalries with other teams in the Northwoods League such as the Eau Claire Express and the La Crosse Loggers. The team has won numerous awards throughout its history, including two division championships and three league titles. Currently leading the program is head coach Chris Coste who took over in 2021 after spending four seasons as an assistant coach for the Twins. Coste has already made his mark on the program by leading them to a winning record in his first year as head coach and earning Coach of the Year honors from both Northwoods League and the American Association of Professional Baseball (AAPB).
The Honkers are led by some of college baseball's top players such as pitcher Tyler Wells who was named All-Star last season after striking out 78 batters; outfielder Sam Haggerty who hit .290 with five home runs; infielder Ryan Jeffers who had a .943 fielding percentage; catcher Ben Rortvedt who had 20 RBIs; and utility player Andre Jernigan who recorded 11 stolen bases. As per the 2023 season, Rochester Honkers will be looking to continue their success from recent years while also building on their rich history of excellence. The Rochester Honkers are an integral part of Minnesota’s Minor League Baseball scene and bring entertainment and excitement for fans throughout Minnesota’s greater Twin Cities area each summer.
