The Daytona Tortugas have been a proud part of the Minor League Baseball system since their inception in 1993. They are the Single-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds and play their home games at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach, Florida. Over the years, they have developed rivalries with other teams in their division such as the Florida Fire Frogs, Clearwater Threshers, and Palm Beach Cardinals. The Tortugas have had a lot of success over the years, including several playoff appearances and three championships (1995, 1997, 2018). The Tortugas are led by head coach Pat Kelly who is entering his third season with the team. Kelly has quickly made his mark on the team by leading them to two consecutive playoff appearances in 2019 and 2020. He also won Manager of the Year honors from both the Florida State League and Baseball America after leading them to a championship in 2018. The Tortugas are also blessed with some of Minor League Baseball’s top talent such as outfielder Stuart Fairchild who was named MVP of the 2019 FSL All-Star Game; pitcher Tony Santillan who was named FSL Pitcher of the Year last season after posting a 9-4 record with a 2.77 ERA; and shortstop Alfredo Rodriguez who batted .309 last season while leading all minor league shortstops with 33 doubles.
In 2024, the Tortugas will be looking to build on their recent success while also maintaining their commitment to excellence both on and off the field. The team is committed to providing an entertaining experience for fans throughout Central Florida while also giving back to its local community through various outreach initiatives such as visiting hospitals and schools throughout Volusia County. In addition, they are active participants in Minor League Baseball’s “Play Ball” initiative which promotes youth participation in baseball through clinics, camps, tournaments, and other activities designed to get kids involved in America’s pastime.
