According to the lyrics of his songs "Mood Swings" and "You're not alone," he was exposed to domestic abuse as a child and saw violent acts against his family. Additionally, he has acknowledged that he battles drug addiction, melancholy, and anxiety. At the age of 17, he started posting beats in January 2014. Josh initially began by creating music tracks, but subsequently added rapping to them. His popularity was later enhanced by the song "Best Friends," which as of June 2021 had amassed 1 million views. Josh produced two more songs in the beginning of 2015: "The Loner Anthem," which has received 1.5 million views, and "Right Now," which has garnered 4 million views as of June 2021. When he posted "No Chill," the second-most watched video on his channel with more than 10 million views, he gained greater notoriety. Soon after, he released "No Shima," which has amassed over 10 million views. Josh had 3.4 million Spotify subscribers as of June 2021. It was an instant success so we decided to do a collab album called Better Off Dead. They released "Suicidal Thoughts" in October 2017, and it has received over 100 million Spotify streams and 24 million YouTube views. They went on their first tour early in 2019, which increased their popularity. Josh A had his first on-camera appearance on YouTube and in a song video in June 2019 by Jake Hill titled "Cycles."
