If you're a soccer fan, there's a good chance you've heard of Liga MX. But what is Liga MX, exactly? And why should you be watching it? In this blog post, we'll break down everything you need to know about Mexico's top soccer league! Whether you're already a fan or just getting started, read on for all the info you need on Liga MX!

Liga MX is the top level of the Mexican football league system. It was founded in 1943 and currently consists of 18 teams. Liga MX is widely considered to be one of the strongest leagues in North America, and regularly produces competitive teams in international tournaments such as the CONCACAF Champions League.

Before the Liga Mayor, there was no national football league in Mexico. The league was founded in 1943 with just nine teams and has since grown to its current size of 18 teams. Liga MX is split into two seasons each year, the Apertura (opening) and Clausura (closing). Each season runs from July to December, with the Apertura from July to December and the Clausura from January to June.
The Liga MX championship is determined by a playoff system. The top eight teams in the standings at the end of the regular season advance to the playoffs, where they compete in a single-elimination tournament. The quarter-finals and semifinals are played over two legs, while the final is a single match. The team with the most points at the end of the regular season is awarded the coveted Campeón de Invierno (Winter Champion) trophy.

Originally at the end of a season, after the Apertura and Clausura tournaments, one team is relegated to the next lower division, Ascenso MX, and one team is promoted. However, in May 2012, the Mexican Football Federation announced plans to change the league to a 17-team format for the 2012-13 seasons. This decision was made to improve the quality of play by reducing the number of games each team must play. As a result, there were no relegations or promotions for the 2012-13 seasons.

Liga MX has produced some of Mexico's most iconic players, including Hugo Sánchez, Cuauhtémoc Blanco, Jared Borgetti, and Rafael Márquez. These players have represented Mexico with distinction at the World Cup and in other international tournaments. Liga MX is also home to many foreign stars, including Argentineans Lionel Messi and Sergio Agüero, Uruguayan Luis Suárez, Chilean Alexis Sánchez, and Colombian James Rodríguez.

Some of the most popular teams in Liga MX include Club America, Chivas de Guadalajara, Cruz Azul, and Pumas UNAM. These teams are typically among the most successful in the league and have many dedicated fans.

So that's a quick rundown of Liga MX! If you're looking for competitive soccer and passionate fans, the Liga MX league is the one for you! Check out some of the top teams and matches, and you're sure to be hooked on Mexico's top soccer league.
