The Southern Dance Academy has been a staple of the Gaffney, SC community for over 25 years. Founded in 1997 by local dance instructor and choreographer, Ms. Sarah Smith, the academy has grown from a small studio with just four dance rooms to an expansive 7,000 square-foot facility that houses four large dance studios and an ample lobby. The Southern Dance Academy offers classes in ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary and lyrical styles of dance as well as musical theatre and voice lessons for all ages. Throughout its history, the Southern Dance Academy has been home to some of the most talented dancers in South Carolina. Many of these dancers have gone on to compete at regional and national competitions where they have won numerous awards including scholarships to prestigious universities such as Juilliard and The Boston Conservatory. In addition to their competitive success, many of these dancers have also performed at various venues throughout the state.
This includes The Peace Center in Greenville and The Koger Center for the Arts in Columbia. In 2023, the Southern Dance Academy will be hosting several theatre events at its Gaffney location. These events will include performances from their award-winning competitive teams as well as special guest performances from professional dancers from around the country. There will also be master classes offered by some of the top instructors in South Carolina which will give aspiring dancers a chance to learn from experienced professionals.
