About NCAA Men's Lacrosse

The NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship is the premier event for lacrosse teams competing in Divisions I, II, and III. Since 1971 this triennial tournament has been held to decide which team outshines all others and will be crowned as champions of men's field lacrosse. The championship for Division I began in 1971, while the championships for Division II and Division III began in 1974. The most recent NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship was held on May 28, 2017, at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The championship is a single-elimination tournament featuring sixteen teams; eight from each division. The Division I tournament consists of four rounds, while the Division II and III tournaments each consist of three rounds. The Division I tournament is held in early May, while the Division II and III tournaments are both held in late May. The sixteen teams in the tournament are selected by a committee based on their regular season records and strength of schedule.

The committee seeds the teams in each division so that the four highest-seeded teams in each division face the four lowest-seeded teams in the first round of the tournament. In Division I, the four quarterfinal winners advance to the semifinals, where they play the four remaining quarterfinal losers in a single-elimination tournament. The two semifinal winners then advance to the championship game, where they play each other for the national title. In Division II, the four quarterfinal winners advance to the semifinals, where they play each other in a single-elimination tournament. The two semifinal winners then advance to the championship game, where they play each other for the national title. In Division III, the four quarterfinal winners advance to the semifinals, where they play each other in a single-elimination tournament.

The two semifinal winners then advance to the championship game, where they play each other for the national title.
