The NextEra Energy 250 is the first race of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season held at Daytona International Speedway, and it has been a nighttime event since 2004. It is the only Truck Series race on the superspeedway. The race was originally 250 miles (402 km) in length, but was shortened to 219 miles (352 km) in 1998. The race distance has remained at 219 miles since. From its inception until 2000, it was held as a support event for the Daytona 500, and was usually held the day before the 500. It has been held as a stand-alone event since 2001, and has been held on Friday night before the Daytona 500 since 2008.
The race is often known for crashes, due to the large speeds that the trucks reach on the superspeedway. In recent years, however, there have been few major crashes in the race.
The most recent NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race held at Daytona was the NextEra Energy Resources 250 on February 21, 2020. Austin Hill won the race, his first career win in the series. Johnny Sauter finished second, and Ben Rhodes finished third. This was also Matt Crafton's 200th career start in the Truck Series.
