The 2022 Beef. It's What's for Dinner. 300 was the first stock car race of the 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series and the 41st iteration of the event. It took place on February 13, 2022 at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. The race was won by Austin Dillon for the second year in a row.
Dillon took the lead on the final lap after a late caution and held off a hard-charging Justin Allgaier to win by 0.013 seconds, the second-closest margin of victory in the history of the race. Allgaier, who led a race-high 118 laps, finished second for the third time in his career, while Elliott Sadler rounded out the top three.
The race was marred by a massive 16-car pileup on lap 103 that collected several championship contenders, including defending series champion Chase Elliott and rookie William Byron. Both drivers were able to continue and finish the race, but Elliott was left with a 19th-place finish and Byron was forced to settle for 21st.
The win was Dillon's sixth in the Xfinity Series and the first for Richard Childress Racing since Tyler Reddick won at Kentucky Speedway in July of 2020. It was also the first win for the Chevrolet Camaro in the Xfinity Series since Austin Dillon won at Charlotte Motor Speedway in October of 2020.
Dillon's win also marked the fourth consecutive year that the winner of the season-opening race at Daytona went on to win the championship. Previous winners include Elliott Sadler (2019), Tyler Reddick (2020) and Chase Elliott (2021).
The race was originally scheduled to be run on Saturday, February 12, but was moved to Sunday due to rain. This marked the first time since 2010 that the Daytona Xfinity race was not run on its traditional date.
Despite the race being moved to Sunday, it was still run on the same day as the 60th Daytona 500. This was the first time since 1971 that the two races were run on the same day.
