The Kamloops Blazers, a junior ice hockey team in the Western Hockey League (WHL), is an up-and-coming force to be reckoned with. The BC Division of the Western Conference's team is based in Kamloops, British Columbia and proudly plays its home games at Sandman Centre. In 1966, the Blazers first began as the Estevan Bruins; fast forward to 1971 and they became known as the New Westminster Bruins. Finally in 1981, after relocating to Kamloops, they were rebranded once more as the Kamloops Junior Oilers. The Portland Blazers are true champions, having snatched up three Memorial Cup titles in 1992, 1994, and 1995 - not to mention the six Ed Chynoweth Cups. In 1966, the Estevan Bruins were officially franchised in Estevan, Saskatchewan. After five years of success there, they relocated to New Westminster, British Columbia - becoming known as the New Westminster Bruins. In the past, renowned hockey coaches have been a part of this team's success. Ken Hitchcock (1984-1990), Tom Renney (1990-1992), and Dean Evason (1999-2002) are some of the names among many who have coached for this organization.

Finally in 2015, due to Tom Gaglardi's ownership of the Sandman Hotels brand, the name changed once more - this time to Sandman Centre. Boasting an impressive five WHL Memorial Cup victories, the team outranks all others with two as New Westminster (1977 and 1978) and three as Kamloops (1992, 1994, and 1995).
The astounding record of seven championships is held by the Ontario Hockey League's Toronto Marlboros, who have since changed their name to Guelph Storm. This remarkable feat has yet to be surpassed in the Canadian Hockey League (CHL). In 1957, the Humboldt Indians of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) relocated to Estevan and were reborn as the Bruins in what would become a storied franchise that began all the way back in 1946. The franchise has dominated the President's Cup, setting a record by claiming 11 titles: once in Estevan, four consecutive wins in New Westminster, and six following their move to Kamloops. In 1995, the Blazers proudly held their Memorial Cup tournament and added to their list of awards by claiming the Western Hockey League (WHL) championship.
