About Euro Cup

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) UEFA Europa League (abbreviated as UEL), formerly the UEFA Cup, is an annual football club competition organized since 1971 by the EUFA for eligible European football clubs. It is the second-tier competition of European club football, ranking below the Champions League and above the Europa League Conference League. Clubs qualify for the Europa League based on their performance in national leagues and cup competitions. In its current incarnation, the Europa League began life in 2009/10 as a rebranding of the UEFA Cup. Prior to this, the competition was known as the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup (1972-1999), the UEFA Cup (1999-2009), and the UEFA Intertoto Cup (1995-2008).

The Europa League is open to teams who have finished in second, third, or fourth place in their domestic leagues, as well as to winners of the domestic cup competitions of certain countries. In order to compete in the Europa League, clubs must first qualify by finishing in a qualifying position in their domestic league, or by winning their domestic cup competition. The Europa League group stage consists of 32 teams, which are drawn into eight groups of four. Each group plays home-and-away round-robin matches between September and December. The group winners and runners-up advance to the knockout stage, which was in February. In the knockout stage, teams play against each other over two legs, home and away, except for the one-match final. The draw for the round of 32 is held in December after the group stage has concluded. The draws for the round of 16, quarter-finals, and semi-finals are held in March.
