The UC Irvine Anteaters Baseball team has a long and proud history of success. Founded in 1965, the Anteaters have been competing for over half a century. The team plays its home games at Cicerone Field at Anteater Ballpark, located on the University of California, Irvine campus. Over the years, the Anteaters have developed several rivalries with other teams in their conference, including UCLA, Long Beach State, and Cal Poly. The team has also won numerous awards throughout its history, including two Big West Conference titles and four NCAA Tournament appearances. Leading the program is head coach Mike Gillespie who took over in 2017 after previous head coach Dave Serrano left for Oregon State. Since then, Gillespie has made his mark on the program by leading them to three consecutive Big West Conference championships from 2017-2019 and earning Coach of the Year honors from both the Big West Conference and the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).
The Anteaters are led by some of college baseball's top players such as pitcher Andre Pallante who was named First Team All-Big West last season after throwing for 103 strikeouts; outfielder Keston Hiura who had a .371 batting average last season; catcher Mitchell Holland who had an impressive .967 fielding percentage last season; infielder Brandon Lewis who led all hitters with 11 home runs last season; and pitcher Blair Moore who had an impressive 1.92 ERA last season. As they look ahead to the 2023 season, UC Irvine Anteaters Baseball will be looking to continue their success from recent years while also building on their rich history of excellence.
