About Tennessee Volunteers Baseball

The Tennessee Volunteers Baseball team has a long and storied history of success. Founded in 1891, the Volunteers have been playing baseball for over a century and have become one of the most successful programs in the country. The team plays its home games at Lindsey Nelson Stadium, located on the University of Tennessee campus. Over the years, the Volunteers have developed several rivalries with other teams in their conference, including Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, and Vanderbilt. The Volunteers have won numerous awards throughout their history, including four SEC championships and two College World Series appearances. The team also boasts an impressive list of former players who went on to play professionally in Major League Baseball (MLB), including Todd Helton, Chase Headley, and David Price. Currently leading the program is head coach Tony Vitello who took over in 2019 after Dave Serrano left for UC Irvine.

Vitello has already made his mark on the program by leading them to a winning record in his first season as head coach and earning Coach of the Year honors from both SEC and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). The Volunteers are led by some of college baseball's top players such as pitcher Garrett Crochet who was named First Team All-SEC last season after striking out 106 batters; outfielder Alerick Soularie who was named Freshman All-American last year after hitting .350 with eight home runs; catcher Connor Pavolony who had 43 RBIs last season; infielder Jake Rucker who led all players with 56 runs scored; and pitcher Jackson Leath who had seven saves last season. As they look ahead to the 2023 season, Tennessee Volunteers Baseball will be looking to continue their success from recent years while also building on their rich history of excellence. With a talented roster full of experienced veterans and promising newcomers alike, there is no doubt that this team will be competitive once again this year as they strive to bring another championship back to Knoxville.
