The Kentucky Wildcats Baseball team is one of the most successful college baseball programs in the country. The team has been playing baseball since 1881 and has a long and storied history of success. The Wildcats play their home games at Cliff Hagan Stadium, located on the University of Kentucky campus. Over the years, the Wildcats have developed several rivalries with other teams in their conference, including Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and Louisville. The team has won numerous awards throughout its history, including four SEC championships and seven NCAA Regional titles. They also boast an impressive list of former players who went on to play professionally in Major League Baseball (MLB), such as Jeff Reardon, Joe Blanton, and Chris Burke. Currently leading the program is head coach Nick Mingione who took over in 2016 after Gary Henderson left for Mississippi State.
Mingione has already made his mark on the program by leading them to two SEC Tournament appearances in his first three seasons as head coach and earning Coach of the Year honors from both the SEC and American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). The Wildcats are led by some of college baseball's top players such as outfielder TK Petersen who was named First Team All-SEC last season after hitting .326 with 12 home runs; pitcher Mason Hazelwood who had a 3.18 ERA last year; catcher Austin Schultz who hit .302 with nine home runs; third baseman Cam Hill who had a .967 fielding percentage last season; and shortstop Austin Wilhite who hit .320 with 11 stolen bases. As they look ahead to the 2023 season, Kentucky Wildcats Baseball will be looking to continue their success from recent years while also building on their rich history of excellence.
