About AAF

The Alliance of American Football was a professional football minor league that consisted of eight teams in the southern and western United States. Seven of those teams were located in metropolitan areas with at least one major professional sports franchise. The AAF was founded by Charlie Ebersol and Bill Polian. The league began to play on February 9, 2019, one week after the Super Bowl. After playing a total of 10 weeks (each team played nine regular-season games), the league suspended operations on April 2, 2019, amid widespread reports that it would soon declare bankruptcy. On April 4, it was officially announced that the league had ceased operations, with all players and personnel being released from their contracts.

The AAF was intended to be a "feeder" system for the NFL, with the league's goal being to develop young players and showcase alternative football strategies. However, the league faced several challenges throughout its short existence. These included low television ratings, financial losses for both the league and its teams, and a lack of player development due in part to NFL rules that prevented players with NFL experience from participating.
