Monster Truck Events at Yadara

A monster truck is a specialized off-road vehicle with heavy-duty suspension, four-wheel steering, large-displacement V8 engines, and oversized tires constructed for competition and entertainment uses. Created by modifying stock pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles (SUVs), they have evolved into the custom-built giants seen today. Monster trucks used to be constructed purely for competitive purposes, but more recently, original monster trucks such as Bigfoot and Grave Digger have been built for display purposes only. These trucks are driven by professional drivers at many venues across the United States and Canada. Most monster truck events feature a race component, with the winner qualifying for the freestyle event at the end of the show.

Freestyle is where the trucks are driven over obstacles such as cars, buses, and occasionally full-size vans and trailers. The objective of freestyle is to wow the crowd with daring feats of driving and enormous air (jumping). Some monster trucks, such as Grave Digger, have achieved iconic status in the United States, and their names are used commercially. Popular culture has adapted monster trucks for television, toys, and movies. Monster trucks are popular with both children and adults. Monster truck shows typically have two main events, a race and a freestyle stunt driving competition. The race is usually a side-by-side drag race, with the loser being eliminated until only two trucks are left; the victor is determined by the best two-out-of-three races.

The freestyle event allows each truck to show off its stunts and tricks in front of the crowd; these may include jumping, flips, wheelies, and doughnuts. The freestyle is usually judged on creativity, style, and crowd reaction. Some monster truck events also include a "pit party", where fans have the opportunity to meet the drivers and see the trucks up close. The history of monster trucks can be traced back to 1971 when Bob Chandler ( nicknamed "Bigfoot") built a truck out of a used Ford F-250 and dubbed it " Bigfoot ". Chandler began his career as a mud bogger in St. Louis, Missouri. In the late 1960s, Chandler became interested in off-road racing and decided to build himself a truck to compete.

His first truck, which he named " Bigfoot ", was a modified Ford F-250 that had taller-than-normal suspension and larger-than-normal tires. The truck proved successful, winning Chandler several races. In 1975, Chandler and fellow mud bogger Dennis Anderson built a second truck called " Grave Digger ". This truck was even more successful than Bigfoot, and Anderson and Chandler began touring the country with their trucks, competing in off-road races and mud-bogging events. Monster truck racing quickly became a popular sport, and by the early 1990s, there were several professional monster truck circuits in operation in the United States. The sport continues to grow in popularity, with monster truck shows now being held in countries all over the world.
