Skerik is a saxophonist from Seattle, Washington. Skerik is known for his work with the band Critters Buggin and for his contributions to the experimental jazz scene. Skerik began playing saxophone at the age of nine. He attended Inglemoor High School in Kenmore, Washington, where he played in the jazz band. Skerik studied music at the Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. Skerik's first professional gig was with the band Critters Buggin. The band was started by Skerik and two other musicians, Matt Cameron and Steve Kimock. Critters Buggin released their self-titled debut album in 1994.
Skerik has also played with such bands as the Squirrel Nut Zippers, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, and the Derek Trucks Band. He has also recorded with such artists as Bill Frisell, John Scofield, and Wayne Horvitz. Skerik is a founding member of the band Garage a Trois. The band's lineup includes Skerik on saxophone, Marco Benevento on piano, and Stanton Moore on drums. The band has released three albums: Emergent, Outre Mer, and Power Patriot. Skerik is also a member of the band Laundry Day. The band's lineup includes Skerik on saxophone, Wayne Horvitz on keyboards, and Joe Doria on Hammond B-3 organ. The band has released two albums: Laundry Day and Silent Partner. Skerik has toured with the bands Phish, Widespread Panic, and Umphrey's McGee. He has also played at the Bonnaroo Music Festival and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
