Sérgio Santos Mendes is a legendary Brazilian musician, composer, and arranger who has been an integral part of the international music scene for over five decades. Born in Niterói, Brazil in 1941, Mendes began his career as a pianist and arranger for some of the most popular Brazilian artists during the 1950s. He then formed his band called Brasil 66 which quickly gained worldwide success with their distinctive sound that combined traditional Brazilian rhythms with jazz and pop elements. The group released several albums throughout the 1960s and 70s including Look Around (1966), Equinox (1967), Crystal Illusions (1969), and Love Music (1970). Mendes's music has been used in countless films, television shows, and commercials over the years. He even composed the theme song for the hit show Will & Grace! His influence can be heard all over modern music today.
