William Henry Marcus Miller Jr., also known as Marcus Miller, is an American musician, songwriter, and record producer. He is best known for his work as a bassist, but he also plays the electric guitar and keyboards. Miller has been active in the music industry since the mid-1970s. He began by playing with the jazz fusion group The Manhattan Transfer and then moved on to form his band, The Marcus Miller Band. Marcus Miller's career has spanned over four decades and he has achieved immense success in that time. His musical style ranges from jazz fusion to funk to R&B. He has recorded more than twenty solo albums and won seven Grammy Awards throughout his career. In addition to this, he has worked with some of the biggest names in music including Miles Davis, Luther Vandross, David Sanborn, Herbie Hancock, and many more.
In 1997, William Marcus Miller released his album M2 which included the hit single "Scoop". This single was certified gold and earned him a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album of the Year. His other notable works include Tutu (1986), Amandla (1989), Laid Black (2018), and Afrodeezia (2015).
