Hiatus Kaiyote is an Australian jazz/funk band formed in Melbourne in 2011. The group consists of singer/guitarist Nai Palm, bassist Paul Bender, keyboardist Simon Mavin, and drummer Perrin Moss. The band has released three studio albums: Tawk Tomahawk (2012), Choose Your Weapon (2015), and Mood Valiant (2020). Their debut album Tawk Tomahawk was released to critical acclaim, earning them a nomination for the prestigious Australian Music Prize. In 2013, they were nominated for a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance for their single "Nakamarra", featuring Q-Tip. In 2015, their second album Choose Your Weapon was released to further critical acclaim and earned them two ARIA Music Awards for Best Urban Album and Best Independent Release. In 2020, Hiatus Kaiyote released their third studio album Mood Valiant. The album features singles such as "Red Room" and "Sip Into Something Soft". It was met with widespread praise from critics and fans alike, with many praising the band's unique blend of jazz, funk, soul, and hip-hop influences.
The band has toured extensively throughout Australia and Europe since 2012. They have also performed at various festivals including Glastonbury Festival in the UK, Primavera Sound in Spain, North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands, Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago USA, Fuji Rock Festival in Japan, and Splendour In The Grass in Australia.
