Herbie Hancock, the American jazz pianist, keyboardist, and composer, has been a major force in music for over five decades. His musical career began at the tender age of 7 when he started to take piano lessons. By the time he was 11 years old, Herbie was already performing publicly. He later attended Grinnell College where he majored in electrical engineering and studied classical composition. In 1963, Herbie joined Miles Davis' sextet as a pianist and arranger. During this time, he composed some of his most iconic songs such as "Watermelon Man," "Cantaloupe Island," and "Maiden Voyage." In 1969, Herbie released his first solo album "Fat Albert Rotunda" which featured many of his own compositions such as "Wiggle Waggle," "Oh! Oh! Here He Comes," and "Tell Me A Bedtime Story." This album was extremely successful and helped to establish him as an innovative artist in jazz-funk fusion. Throughout his career, Herbie has released over 50 albums and won 14 Grammy Awards including Album Of The Year for River: The Joni Letters (2007), Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for Stitched Up (2004), Best Pop Instrumental Performance for Rockit (1984), Best Jazz Instrumental Solo for Watermelon Man (1983). In addition to these awards, Herbie has also been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 2008. Herbie Hancock is currently on tour promoting his latest album Possibilities which features collaborations with artists such as Sting, Christina Aguilera, John Mayer, Santana, Joss Stone, and more.
