About Chris Botti

Chris Botti, born Christopher Stephen Botti on October 12, 1962, in Portland, Oregon, has established himself as a preeminent American jazz trumpeter and composer. His journey into music began at the age of nine, inspired by his classically trained pianist mother and profoundly influenced by hearing Miles Davis perform "My Funny Valentine" at twelve. Botti honed his craft under the tutelage of jazz educator David Baker and trumpet professor Bill Adam at Indiana University. In 1984, he made the pivotal decision to leave academia to tour with the legendary Frank Sinatra, marking the commencement of a prolific career. Throughout the 1990s, Botti's versatility as a musician was showcased through collaborations with a diverse array of artists, including Paul Simon, Aretha Franklin, Natalie Cole, and Joni Mitchell. His tenure with Paul Simon, notably the 1991 Central Park concert, significantly broadened his exposure. In 1995, Botti released his debut solo album, "First Wish," which, along with subsequent albums "Midnight Without You" (1997) and "Slowing Down the World" (1999), solidified his reputation in the contemporary jazz scene.

The early 2000s marked a period of critical and commercial success for Botti. His 2001 album "Night Sessions" was a turning point, leading to a series of chart-topping releases. "When I Fall in Love" (2004) and "To Love Again: The Duets" (2005) featured collaborations with artists such as Sting, Michael Bublé, and Steven Tyler, blending jazz with pop sensibilities. In 2007, Botti paid homage to his Italian heritage with the album "Italia," earning a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Instrumental Album. His live performances have been equally lauded; "Chris Botti in Boston" (2009) featured luminaries like Yo-Yo Ma and Josh Groban, achieving platinum status and multiple Grammy nominations. The pinnacle of his recording career came with "Impressions" (2012), which garnered the Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Album in 2013. Known for his evocative trumpet tone and ability to traverse genres, Botti has become one of the best-selling American instrumental artists.
