Wet Leg is a British indie rock band founded in 2019 by Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers, hailing from the Isle of Wight. The group is currently signed to Balaclava Records, and have released two EPs to date. Wet Leg's musical style has been described as "a mix of grunge and pop-punk, with catchy melodies and relatable lyrics". The band has cited influences such as Nirvana, Green Day, and the Foo Fighters. While pursuing a BTEC National Diploma in Music Practice at Platform One College of Music on the Isle of Wight, Teasdale and Chambers first became friends. In 2019, they formed the musical group Wet Leg and signed with Domino Recording Company. They selected the name through a game in which they had to choose various emoji combinations; when they arrived at Wet Leg, it stuck. The band claimed that its moniker was derived from an Isle of Wight slur used to refer to visitors to the island in an interview with Diffus that was uploaded to YouTube in April 2022. It was reported that those who had traveled across the Solent to come to the island had damp legs from getting off the boat. On June 15, 2021, they published "Chaise Longue," their debut song, which received media attention for amassing millions of streaming and video views. On September 28, 2021, their second single, "Wet Dream," was released. It's unusual for a new group to release two songs that are equally excellent, according to Variety. They were seen on Later. 30 October 2021, on BBC2, with Jools Holland. They announced their first album, which would be self-titled, on November 29, 2021. Domino would release it on April 8, 2022. Wet Leg issued the double-single "Too Late Now" and "Oh No" on the same day. They performed songs from their debut album whilst on tour in the UK in 2022. It was revealed that they would tour as Harry Styles' opening act in 2023, visiting both Australia and New Zealand.
