Tim Baker is a Canadian singer-songwriter from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. The Hey Rosetta! indie rock band's longstanding frontman On April 19, 2019, Arts & Crafts released his first solo album, Forever Overhead.
Baker received his education at Concordia University, where he intended to study piano but was forced to switch to creative writing due to tendonitis that prevented him from playing for his admissions audition. After graduating, he went back to St. John's and started playing solo gigs there before concluding that his songs needed a bigger band sound and starting Hey Rosetta!
In 2016, as part of a special series on the economic difficulties faced by Newfoundlanders, Baker released "Spirit," his first solo song, on the CBC Radio news program The Current. The track can be found on Forever Overhead.
Forever Overhead got a nomination for Songwriter of the Year at the Juno Awards in 2020 for the tracks "All Hands," "Dance," and "The Eighteenth Hole" and was named to the initial longlist for the 2019 Polaris Music Prize in June 2019.
He released the Survivors EP in July 2020. He sang "Songbirds" at Mary Simon's inauguration as Canada's governor general on July 26, 2021. He collaborated with Rose Cousins in 2021 to re-record her song "The Lullaby (My Oldest Love)" in a fresh arrangement.
The Festival, his upcoming second solo album, is expected to be released in October 2022.
