Sungazer's story begins with two friends who bonded over their love of video games and music. In the summer of 2012, Neely and Crowder met while attending the University of North Texas Jazz Studies program. They hit it off immediately and began playing gigs together around Denton. After a few months of gigging, they decided to start recording their own music. In the fall of 2012, the duo released their first EP, "The 8-Bit Sessions." The EP was an instant success and helped the group gain a following both in the US and Europe. In 2014, Sungazer released their second EP, "Sungazer II." The EP featured more of the group's trademark sound, as well as some new elements that were inspired by their travel experiences. In 2016, the duo released their third EP, "Sungazer III." The EP featured more complex arrangements and a wider range of sounds. In 2017, Sungazer released their fourth EP, "Sungazer IV." The EP featured more of the group's travel experiences, as well as some new elements that were inspired by their love of video games.
