Strfkr is an indie rock band from Portland, Oregon. The band was formed in 2007 by Joshua Hodges, and they have released four studio albums. Strfkr's music has been featured on TV shows such as New Girl and The L Word.
Sexton Blake, the solo album Hodges released before starting Strfkr, was followed by Plays The Hits, the album Sexton Blake released as a band. Expunged Records distributed both albums.
After Plays The Hits, the band members moved to Portland and began touring. The tours supporting their self-titled album and Reptilians were particularly extensive. In 2012, they toured with Passion Pit and Matt & Kim.
The band's fourth studio album, Being No One, Going Nowhere, was released on October 28, 2016.
The band's name is a reference to the 1980s TV show Starfuckers, which was about a race of aliens who invade Earth and take on human form. The word "fuck" is often censored when the band's name is printed, but it is pronounced in full when the band is mentioned orally.
The band's music has been described as "catchy and anthemic", with elements of indie rock, synth-pop, and shoegaze. The band's sound has been compared to that of Modest Mouse, Spoon, and Arcade Fire.
